The Kabbalah of Shame.

Fifty days intervened between the Israelites’ exodus from Egypt (commemorated by Passover) and the Torah’s revelation at Sinai (marked by the festival of Shavuot). In those fifty days between their birth as a people, and their initiation into the Torah’s cosmic mysteries, this newborn nation had to prepare itself to hold the Infinite Light that was slated to descend at Sinai. Each day they stretched and strengthened a different character trait. These forty-nine steps comprise a complete cycle of personal growth.
